This is a fun and quick crochet technique! It is NOT mosaic crochet, but it looks a lot like mosaic crochet. ❓❓❓❓ This is great!👍😀 Thank you so much! This isn't exactly what I was trying to find but it is a really good substitute. I found a listing for super thick 8" CREATIVE CO-OP POTHOLDERS being sold on Amazon and other sites. I want to make some for personal use but I don't know what stitch is used. It appears to be a modified form of a thermal stitch that creates sort of a "twisty/wavy" appearance" (Google the CO OP Potholders for a visual description). ❓❓❓Does anyone know what stitch it's made with and/or how to make them?❓❓❓ Again, thanks so much for the tutorial and for any info you can share about the stitch I'm looking for! 😊
You're very welcome! I hadn't heard of cop-op potholders. But I looked them up on Amazon and over 90% of them are knit, not crochet. That's why they look twisty/wavy. They're made with rows of knit stitches, which is essentially garter stitch (in knitting terms). Happy crocheting (and/or knitting) to you!

Hi Sonja. Unfortunately, I can't do a tutorial for the heart hot pad (at least not for several years). The heart hot pad is done using the same alternate spike sc mosaic crochet technique as I demonstrate in this video. The paid pattern includes complete written instructions for each row of 2 heart hot pads and charts to follow for each of the 2 heart hot pads, detailing where to work the spike sc to make the project reversible. I learned to do mosaic crochet with your very well made and clear video instructions. I've made a few baby blankets and purses. I'm about to embark on a large blanket, but the chart is for interlocking mosaic. Can I use the same chart for the inset technique? I fully understand reading charts for inset thanks to your amazing videos, but I can't find an answer to this particular question. Thank you for your time and great videos.
Hi Sandra. You're very welcome! I'm so glad that you've been able to learn mosaic crochet from my videos! I think it might be easier to convert interlocking charts to overlay mosaic crochet, not inset. But you could always try to do the blanket with inset mosaic crochet. It would probably turn out somewhat taller than the pattern for interlocking crochet, though. Happy crocheting to you now and always!
How do you join the squares together after using this technique?
I would work 1 round of single crochet stitches around the edges of each square, then join them together with whip stitches or your favorite joining technique. Happy mosaic crocheting to you, Karen!

Yes, Karen. You would follow the pattern normally, but work an anchored double crochet on the wrong side on the next row above each of the double crochet in the pattern. You also need to work an anchored double crochet on the right side (instead of a front loop double crochet) on the last row to complete the project. Or you could do a different reversible mosaic crochet technique, such as spike single crochet following the pattern exactly. Hi Cheryl. I'm glad you found my video, too! Just make sure to adjust the carried yarn before starting each row. That way, it won't be too tight or too loose when you start each row. You won't need to work a double border on your huge blanket, saving yarn and time! Happy crocheting to you now and always!

Another very coherent and well made video. Your videos and demonstrations are a joy to watch. I would like to address your viewers though about the beginning of the pot holder. When making the foundation make sure you go through both strands so that you are left with only one when making your first row after the foundation row. I started out with only hooking up one strand on the chain and then had a hard time figuring out how to make the next row. And please, watch the video through first so you can see what she is doing. And do not give up. After you finish the 3rd row it is so much easier after that and your project will fly by. Happy crocheting. And thank you again for the great video. 😊

Sometimes I forget that other crocheters may work their first row into just 1 strand. But you're right, it might be more challenging to find the correct "unused" chain(s) to work into on Row 2! That's a fabulous idea! It would be fun to use all 4 woven crochet patterns, alternating the right side and wrong side on each of them to give a slightly different look! And the blanket would be totally reversible! I'd also use different colors (or you could simplify it and just use 2 colors throughout). Happy crocheting to you!

I’m also a spinner. I started with an Ashford traditional but due to a leg injury the constant treadling aggravated my leg, so (I had to!!!) move to an electric wheel. Mine is an Ashford and I just love it. They are now quite expensive (NZ 1,000 ++). Mine also came with a tensionised lazy Kate. I sit my wheel on my breakfast bar and I can do a bit of spinning while waiting for the dinner to cook!

Thank you! I found the biggest obstacle to this yarn was the amount of yarn for crocheting the last round. That's why I made the shorter stitches instead so there's enough yarn left for joining the squares now.

Great tutorial but my cozy came out smaller than yours. But I do tend to crochet tight. So next time I will add more increases or start with 12 single crochets instead of 8. Thank you for all your work in making this video. Looking forward to more. :)
I would suggest using a larger crochet hook (1-2 sizes larger) instead of adding more sc. If you start with 12 sc, I don't think you'll have a flat bottom on your bowl cozy. You can always add more rounds either before the 3 sc increases or at the top of the bowl cozy. Just examine the increases that I've worked into the pattern in each section and add rounds accordingly. It's easier to add the extra rounds at the top, though. And it would be easiest to use a larger hook than adding more rounds. Happy crocheting to you!
What I do with designs that do not seem safe for a pot holder, is use doubled up worsted weight yarn. Cotton only.
